So following on from last weeks post and inspirational kitchens, I thought that I would talk a little bit about making your kitchen that bit more individual and quirky.
Now this one is for the more adventurous out there….
If you are looking for a kitchen with a difference, then contrasting your kitchen units is a great way to go. Whether you decide on different finishes or the same finish in different colours, this is a fantastic way to inject your personality into your kitchen. However, you do need to keep the rest of the kitchen neutral, so if you are going down this road, keep that in mind.
If, contrasting your kitchen units is a little too adventurous for you, then using a one off piece, like these sideboards is as effective, you just need to integrate it into your functioning kitchen.
Create a Splash
The Backsplash is an area that can very often be overlooked, as an area to create interest. Generally a neutral tile is picked and not much more is thought about it. But this is an area that you can really make an impact with. I love the use of different tiles in the image above. What a fantastic feature!!!
I love the idea of running the backsplash tiles the whole way up the wall. Very cool.
Don’t Ignore the Walls!
When you think of artwork, do you associate it with a kitchen? Not many people do, and it is probably the best way to introduce colour, personality and interest into your kitchen. The possibilities are endless. Check out the images above for some inspiration. Would you fancy half a car hanging in your kitchen?
A little bit more conventional, simple framed artwork, but if its done right it can also make a huge impact.
Light it Up
Lighting is necessary in every kitchen, but why choose simple understated light fittings, when you can add a real statement piece, whether its over your island, dining table or just a center light.
I love these kitchen accessories lights. With a little bit of out of the box thinking and some DIY, what can you come up with?
Well I hope that I have inspired you to think differently about kitchen design and its possibilities. As always we would love to hear from you! Do you have a really quirky or unusual kitchen? We would love to see it, so please send in a pic.
